Meditation is all about attaining a calm and peaceful state of mind. Meditation isn’t as difficult as you may think, even for novice practitioners. In fact, learning how to meditate can be a fun and exciting experience. What I’ll do is give you some basic information about how to meditate that will help you along the way.
Let’s break down what meditation is in simpler terms. It is simply concentrating on something as a way of calming your mind and feeling happier and more relaxed. Stress can affect us all and meditation is a great way to counteract stress. It’s easy to add a meditation session to your daily life.
So what is meditation? It’s a method of focusing the mind on a single object and usually on your breathing.

How to meditate
There are a number of ways to meditate, and each one can be used for a different purpose. It might be to focus on an object for a while (like, for example, to focus on something like a flower or a tree in order to calm the mind), to focus your attention on another person (to give yourself a nice diversion when you’re feeling lonely or just plain bored), or simply to have a peaceful time away from all the stress in the world.
When it comes to meditation techniques, you don’t have to worry about any complicated programs or therapies. This technique is about focus and calmness, and it doesn’t take much time or money to learn. With a little bit of practice, you’ll start to see the benefits yourself.
Although you don’t actually need any equipment, there are aids to help you meditate if you prefer. There are many apps available to help you enter a meditative state.
Breathe
The actual meditation starts with you breathing deeply. Breathing techniques vary widely between meditations, so find one that you feel comfortable with. When you’re just starting out, try to focus on a specific point as your body inhales. Don’t try to force it.
You can either keep your eyes closed or open while you’re breathing. Open eyed meditation is much more difficult. It is harder to avoid getting distracted if your eyes are open. You’ll find it easier to keep your eyes shut for the duration of your meditation.
While your breathing is deep, you want to focus your attention on your exhalation. By bringing your attention back to your breathing, you’re slowly bringing your awareness into your physical sensations. After a few minutes, your awareness will expand into deeper states of awareness that you can then translate into breathing meditation.
If you find your mind is wandering, do not worry. You just need to gently bring your thoughts back to your breathing. It is not unusual for thoughts to come and go; just let them float through your mind. Return your mind to your breathing whenever this happens.

When you meditate, you’re working with an individual subject (your breathing). As such, you should try to use every tool you have at your disposal to focus your mind.
With meditation, you can use a variety of tools to enhance the experience. Aromatherapy and props such as candles, flowers, and white noise can all be used. There’s nothing wrong with using things that are soothing, but if you’re trying to meditate, don’t pick up anything that might be distracting. If you can’t focus, then you’ll never achieve a calm mind.
Don’t let fear of the unknown keep you from meditating. If you use these tips you will soon learn how to meditate successfully. You’ll be on your way to a calmer and happier you in no time.
